International EMBA Brussels
International EMBA Vilnius
The online event will take place via ZOOM on Thursday, January 14th
In good times and bad times, a team should have the same vision and goals to achieve the best results. But being a captain in a stormy sea means taking team management abilities to the next level. What specific skills are needed in challenging circumstances? And how do lessons learnt sailing on the ocean apply in business?
BMI Brussels is hosting a motivational webinar with the professional sailor and olympian Rokas Milevicius titled “Leadership during the storm: a real-life (team management) story”.
A member of the Ambersail team, Rokas Milevicius, will share an inspiring and motivational story of how to manage and mobilize a team in challenging times. He will share his insights on how the emotional state of a leader affects the team and what is needed to bring the team together to sail out of the storm and achieve efficiency.
About the speaker
Rokas Milevičius is a Lithuanian professional sailor. In 2014 he joined the Dutch sailing team Brunel for the 2014–2015 Volvo Ocean Race (currently The Ocean Race), which is often described as the longest and toughest professional sporting event in the world. He is also an olympic athlete, having competed in the London Olympic games 2012. He also took part in the Rio Olympic games as a coach of Gintarė Volungevičiūtė-Scheidt, who won a silver medal.
As a Laser sailor, Rokas managed to qualify for the 2012 Olympics on his own. Later, while sailing the VO6O Assa Abloy in his free time and competing in the Sydney Hobart Yacht race among others, he sent his CV to Bouwe Bekking, a Dutch sailor and skipper of Team Brunel who has sailed in seven Volvo Ocean Races.
“I’m slowly seeing myself in the big picture. At first I thought ‘what chance does some guy from Lithuania have with this Dutch team?’ It was a life-changing moment for me. This is the biggest race there is,” he says.
Besides his sport activities, Rokas is also a successful businessman with a sport club chain and a social activist.
The webinar will take approximately an hour or an hour and a quarter. The Zoom link, together with the confirmation of your registration, will be sent shortly after registration. We look forward to seeing you online!
