This year, the BMI Executive Institute launched the BMI Board Network – a platform designed to bring together experienced executives and board members to exchange governance insights, explore emerging challenges, and learn from each other’s real-world experiences. As we close the first year of this initiative, we are pleased to invite you to a special year-end Executive Breakfast that will focus on one of the most important questions in governance: how theory becomes practice.

Throughout the year, our sessions have examined a wide spectrum of board-level topics, from family business succession to navigating the new EU gender balance directive. These conversations highlighted how rapidly the governance landscape is evolving – and how essential it is for board leaders to continuously translate new knowledge into effective action.

Our final event of the year will therefore shift the spotlight to the practical side of governance. We will explore what happens after the learning is done:

  • How theoretical frameworks survive real boardroom dynamics
  • What practices board members actually adopt
  • Which tools and insights prove effective, and which remain difficult to implement

Our discussion will be enriched by four executives who have completed advanced corporate governance programmes delivered by the BMI Executive Institute in partnership with leading European business schools. Two panelists studied governance through the Copenhagen Business School partnership, reflecting Scandinavian governance traditions, while the other two completed programmes in collaboration with the University of St. Gallen, bringing forward perspectives rooted in Swiss governance principles.

They will each share a concise, practice-oriented message highlighting one core insight from their respective learning experiences. This setup will naturally open the space for comparing how different governance cultures – Scandinavian, Swiss, and Baltic – approach similar challenges, where they converge, and where they differ in practice.
