Why Boards Say Yes or No to Investments – and How Lithuania Can Change the Answer | Live, Vilnius

When? 15 April 2026
What time? 9:30-11:00
Where? BMI Executive Institute Office, Artery Business Center, Konstitucijos ave. 18B, Vilnius (7th floor)

The recent announcement of Aumovio’s withdrawal from Lithuania has brought renewed attention to a critical strategic question: how do boards make investment decisions, and what can Lithuania do to influence those decisions more effectively? Publicly discussed reasons behind the decision included declining demand, underutilised capacity, and increasingly complex logistics, while investor representatives in Lithuania described the move as a serious signal for the country’s investment climate.

In this BMI Board Network session, we will use that moment as a starting point for a broader board-level conversation. Rather than focusing only on one company’s exit or on competitiveness as an outcome, the discussion will examine how boards evaluate markets, what priorities shape their decisions, and what signals influence whether companies choose to invest, expand, stay, or leave.

The session will explore what matters most in practice – from financing conditions, access to talent, and supply chains to geopolitical context, policy predictability, and long-term growth potential. Most importantly, it will look at the question from a practical perspective: what does Lithuania need to understand about boardroom priorities, and what actions can strengthen its position when investment decisions are being made?

Bringing together perspectives from investment promotion, development finance, governance, and strategic leadership, this session is designed for board members, executives, investors, and decision-makers who want to better understand not only how investment choices are shaped, but also how Lithuania can become more effective in influencing those choices.

What will be discussed

  • What drives corporate investment decisions today
  • What boards prioritise when evaluating markets for investment and growth
  • Which signals increase or weaken Lithuania’s attractiveness in boardroom discussions
  • What Lithuania needs to understand about how companies decide to invest, stay, expand, or leave
  • Which actions could help Lithuania influence boardroom decisions more effectively
