Those who create real and lasting impact for the state, society, and the economy usually do so not out of personal ambition, but driven by an inner commitment to act beyond the limits of their professional careers or organizations. The BMI Alumni Executive Club, which brings together more than a thousand business and public-sector leaders, together with EBIT, Lithuania’s largest leadership conference, is presenting five people whose work in recent years has strengthened the state, business, and society, creating long-term value for the country. DELFI readers are invited to choose the leader who has made the most significant impact.
An opportunity to highlight exceptional personalities
According to Mantas Marčiulaitis, Chairman of the Board of the BMI Alumni Executive Club, the initiative is intended to draw attention to leaders who not only achieve outstanding results in their fields, but also take responsibility for broader social change – even if they do not always do so loudly.
“These are people who do not limit themselves to professional success. They actively invest in education, science, health, civic engagement, and confidence in the country’s future. Yet their work often remains known only to a narrow circle of society or business representatives. This vote is an opportunity to highlight exceptional individuals who create tangible value in Lithuania and whose example should encourage others to take more active action,” says Marčiulaitis.
Five candidates have been put forward for the DELFI readers’ vote: Dovilė Burgienė, Managing Partner at the law firm WALLESS, an active philanthropist and promoter of women’s leadership; Giedrė Kvedaravičienė, an advocate of personalized medicine and head of Lithuania’s first Population and Rare Diseases Biobank; Dr. Agnė Diana Liubertaitė-Amšiejė, a voice for educational innovation, emotional resilience, and the responsible integration of technology into learning; Vilija Railaitė, a business leader who chose the path of teaching and contributes to the development of a modern school; and Vytautas Šilinskas, head of Investors’ Forum, who seeks a stronger public sector based on trust and a more attractive investment environment in Lithuania.
All the candidates are members of the alumni community of the international Executive MBA programme at BMI Executive Institute. Voting is open until May 20. The winners will be announced on June 4 during the formal BMI Alumni Gala awards ceremony.
Five candidates have been nominated:
- Dovilė Burgienė is the Managing Partner at the law firm WALLESS and one of the initiators of projects related to national security and defense, entrepreneurship, philanthropy, women’s leadership, and support for science. Her family donated €200,000 to the Vilnius University Endowment Fund, which works to advance science in Lithuania, and actively participates in its activities. Burgienė is also one of the faces of the investment-themed television project Rykliai. The project has not only contributed to the development of start-ups, but has also actively promoted the ideas of mentorship and entrepreneurship in Lithuania.
In addition to these activities, Burgienė is one of the founders and board members of Lyderė, an association promoting women’s leadership. She is also Vice-President and board member of the Lithuanian Business Confederation, a board member of the Future Biomedicine Fund, and Co-Chair of the Corporate M&A Committee of the International Bar Association, the world’s largest global association of lawyers.
- Giedrė Kvedaravičienė is one of the most prominent figures in personalized medicine in Lithuania. A major breakthrough in this field came on March 31, 2025, when the country’s first Population and Rare Diseases Biobank began operating. The biobank opens up new opportunities to strengthen disease prevention and early diagnosis, while empowering society to become actively involved in the implementation of personalized medicine solutions in Lithuania.
The Lithuanian Population and Rare Diseases Biobank, led by Kvedaravičienė, is creating a foundation of unique value for scientific research and practical solutions that help ensure better healthcare for society as a whole and for each of us individually. It is a platform that connects international scientific progress with Lithuanian society, enabling faster implementation of personalized medicine and ensuring more accessible and effective disease prevention and treatment for everyone – so that future generations can live in a healthier and happier country.
- Dr. Agnė Diana Liubertaitė-Amšiejė works in the fields of modernizing Lithuania’s education system, parenting education, and strengthening society’s emotional resilience. She is one of the most prominent voices encouraging responsible use of social media among children and adolescents, as well as the effective integration of artificial intelligence into the national education system.
The first private school in Lithuania, founded by T. Liubertienė and where Liubertaitė-Amšiejė serves as Executive Director, became the country’s first non-state hybrid school in 2020. In 2025, it was officially recognized as the first “Thinking School,” focused on the individual academic and psychological needs of students. In 2024, together with a team of researchers and practitioners, she published the book What Does My Child Need? 126 FAQs, which also became the basis for a special DELFI project for parents. The nominee consults educational institutions on issues related to the behavior of children and adolescents and conducts training for teachers across Lithuania, seeking to strengthen the relationship between parents and schools.
- Vilija Railaitė embodies a unique story: after many years of business management and successful strategic communications experience, she became an English teacher and one of the faces of the I Choose to Teach! program. Her search for meaningful work led her to school, and working among children and teachers showed her how much can be achieved through patient, purposeful, everyday work in education. Through her own example, Vilija shows that teaching can truly be a prestigious profession, and she contributes to the development of a modern school.
Railaitė currently serves as Director of Apvalus Kvadratas, a school that contributes to the creation of a modern learning environment and the introduction of innovative teaching methods. The school’s ecosystem, grounded in humanistic values and progressive educational principles, is a safe and encouraging environment for people who are growing and learning. The entire school community serves as a source of positive change in education and society.
- Vytautas Šilinskas is the head of the Investors’ Forum association, a lawyer, a former Minister of Social Security and Labour, and the father of three daughters. He wants Lithuania to become the best country in which to invest. To achieve this, he believes the country needs trust in business, talent, and an efficient public sector. In his view, Lithuania’s greatest opportunity is to “move the public sector out of serfdom-style management.” This means creating a system in which those who make no mistakes because they do no work and shift responsibility onto others are not valued more highly than those who actually achieve more.
