A New Board Network Aims to Strengthen Business Competitiveness

The number of people in Lithuania aspiring to work on company boards is growing — some board position announcements receive over a hundred applicants. However, alongside quantity, quality is just as important: companies tend to prioritize candidates with broad and diverse experience — a group that remains relatively smaller.

In response to the increasing demand for experienced board members, international business management school BMI Executive Institute, together with its alumni association BMI Alumni Executive Club, is launching the BMI Board Network. The aim of this initiative is to attract seasoned executives who are willing to openly share their knowledge and practical experience to help companies navigate corporate governance challenges.

“We’ve observed that most executives are well-versed in theory. But not everyone has had the opportunity to test that theory in practice — and sometimes such attempts can be very costly. That’s why we’ll invite leaders to learn from others’ successes and failures. We are creating a network where members can hear real-life stories straight from boardrooms and CEO offices,” says Jurga Bendikaitė-Ursavas, director general at BMI Executive Institute.

The BMI Board Network will offer meetings and discussions with experienced executives, business owners, and board members. It will also provide expert analysis of major events and decisions in the business world, with a particular focus on governance and practical outcomes. The insights will come directly from those who make the decisions.

“Our community includes over 1,300 alumni from more than 30 countries. These are top-level executives, active business leaders, and board members with experience across various sectors in Lithuania and abroad. We want to make their knowledge more accessible to the broader business community and contribute to strengthening Lithuania’s competitiveness,” notes Rytis Valūnas, President of the BMI Alumni Executive Club.

The network is intended for top-level executives, current and aspiring board members, and business owners.

Speakers within the BMI Board Network will include professionals from around the world, helping to provide a global perspective. The network will strive to respond quickly to relevant and impactful business developments. Those at the center of such events will share their insights, and professionals will provide deep analysis. Topics will focus either on leadership development or on the value added to the businesses represented — ensuring that the knowledge gained helps improve governance quality.
