Field Seminar: Creating International High-Growth Ventures

Overview
Creating International High-Growth Ventures is an immersive, action-learning module focused on how high-growth, technology-based businesses are built and scaled.
Combining academic frameworks with company visits and direct interaction with entrepreneurs, investors and other professionals, participants analyse real businesses, business models, market opportunities and growth challenges. Working in teams, they apply these concepts to a selected high-growth venture.
After this course you will be able to:
- Identify and assess high-growth business opportunities: analyse markets, business opportunities and market configurations, with particular attention to technology-based and digital ventures.
- Analyse different business models: understand how e-commerce, SaaS and subscription models, platforms and account-based businesses create and capture value.
- Evaluate the economics of a growing venture: examine customer acquisition channels and costs, customer lifetime value, financing, revenue development and other core elements of unit economics.
- Work with growth metrics and KPIs: identify the key indicators and underlying drivers that determine the development and performance of a high-growth company.
- Assess growth potential and strategic challenges: analyse why a venture may succeed, identify the main barriers to further growth and consider possible ways to address them
- Gain broader exposure to industries and career opportunities: develop deeper insight into different sectors, companies and professional paths through interaction with entrepreneurs, investors and other professionals in the startup ecosystem.

Prof. Dr. Jan Brinckmann
Professor of Entrepreneurship at ESADE Business School.- Director of the Entrepreneurship Lab of the ESADE MBA Program, Director of ESADE’s own Accelerator EWorks, Director of the MSc in Innovation and Entrepreneurship and the ESADE Entrepreneurship Research Group.
- He also teaches High Technology Venturing at the University of Sankt Gallen and at the Korean University Business School.
- Has founded different companies including Favcorner, Rending International and a high-tech venture investment and advisory holding firm. He is member of various company boards.
- He is also a very active business angel. Investments include Autit, Bloobirds, Careesma, Club Kviar, Designy, First Stop Health, Icebergs, Juniqe, Lytt, Margin, Pridatect, Red Points, Savedo, Semalytix and ValueDesk with three exits to Pinterest/IPO, Resy/American Express and Deposit Solutions.
- He created and leads the Founders Academy/startup School for the Founders Foundation by the Bertelsmann Foundation.
- He consulted various high-tech firms including Grupo Intercom, Rocket Internet, Pandora, Zanox, Wildlife Works, iWorld Group, Hilltop Technologies, and Fiabee as well as corporations like SAP, Bertelsmann, PPG or Deutsche Bank on corporate entrepreneurship.
