Eamonn Walsh, an Honorary Professor at BMI Institute, passed away at 60

BMI Institute was sad to learn about the passing of Eamonn J. Walsh, PwC Professor in the UCD University and our Senior Professor at BMI, at the age of 60.

He was an outstanding figure in Dublin, but he also played a key role in global education as a visiting professor. He joined BMI Institute faculty a decade ago and has taught the “Global Economic Environment” course. The professor has always received a positive feedback from participants about his ability to deliver courses in such an engaging way. He was never tired of elaborating and sharing advice with participants.

“It was really unexpected news. Eamonn will always be remembered as a dear partner and friend of BMI, whose energy and positivity would fill all the rooms where he entered.” says Director General Jurgita Bendikaite-Ursavas, “Our thoughts are with his family, friends and colleagues.”

Eamonn Walsh has served as Dean of the Smurfit School of Business and Chairman of the Accounting Department. His primary research, teaching and consulting interests were in the areas of financial analysis, equity valuation and US securities markets. A co-author of three books, his research has been published in Accounting Organisations and Society, the Journal of Business Finance and Accounting and the Journal of Accounting Auditing and Finance. He was the founding editor of European Accounting and served as Associate Editor of the Journal of Accounting Auditing and Finance.

A consultant to a number of leading European, US and Asian corporations, he has also completed assignments with governmental organisations, the International Monetary Fund and the United Nations. He was the inaugural recipient of the Institute of Chartered Accountants Excellence in Education Award and presented at the World Economic Forum several times.

He will be dearly missed by BMI community.
